Distractions

Year after year it was the same—Peninnah would taunt Hannah as they went to the Tabernacle. Each time, Hannah would be reduced to tears and would not even pray.1 Samuel 1:7

Reading from verses 1 through 7 and the rest of the verses, we can see one woman (Hannah) whose womb has been closed by the Lord Himself. Year after year she goes to the place where they are to worship and make sacrifices to the Lord.

The scripture says she would cry and refuse to eat. She gets worried and distracted by the words and mockery of her rival from her main purpose. Her first issue is not being able to bore a child.

Secondly, she's there to worship and to make sacrifices to the Lord. Instead of focusing on the purpose of why she's there and her problems, she focuses her attention to the distraction power of her rival. This is mostly common with believers. We are easily distracted by our friends, families and most of all the problems we face or are going through.

Unless we stop focusing on our problems and the kind of things said about and to us, we will never grow. Our problems will continue to remain as is or even worsen.Hannah was barren for a very long time because she was distracted by her rival until she stopped focusing on her words and mockery. It's about time we paid less attention to our problems, words from our friends and family.
