Unity in Marriage [Day 3]
Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 ESV
Marriage is the most important and oldest human institution that has ever existed. It is a sacred thing that God values most. Even before God created the woman for the man, He had the mindset of togetherness. This is why He created every creature in pairs, thus, male and female.
Jesus then comes in to cement and tar the most cherished institution by God, by drawing our attention with His question: "Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female? Matthew 19:4. He, knowing what marriage itself means to the Father then advised that, "What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate." Matthew 19:6.
I am not yet married but I have had the opportunity to stay with both of my parents and, so I can just say something about marriage. I saw times where things weren't as smooth as they had always been, though my parents tried to hide that ugly but sweet side of it to us as children. I said ugly but sweet because anytime they settle down their differences, there's always a new beginning.
But for this beautiful union to hold, the two parties (the husband and wife, and if by grace children come in between them), have key roles to play. Ephesians spells out these roles that the man (husband), being the head of the family must simply love his wife. The woman (wife) must be submissive, (Ephesians 5:22-25). And children are not to separate but rather be as an object to strengthen the bond of unity in the family. Therefore, they must just obey their parents (Ephesians 6:1-2).
God hates separation but loves togetherness in the family. Therefore if we have Him, the Head, there will be an everlasting peace, love and harmony in our families.
Amen.
